Experience Summary

After graduating from Michigan State University, Jan Cornelius enjoyed positions as an escrow officer with Transnation Title and as a real estate paralegal with Warner Norcross & Judd. Her passion for mortgage lending started when she joined Heartwell Mortgage, where she spent 20 years serving West Michigan clients with refinances and purchases, with “first homes,” the “next home,” and “second homes” for recreation and vacation. 

Jan found her niche in community lending with Byron Bank in 2007. She joined Macatawa Bank in 2011—which is now a part of Wintrust Mortgage—where she’s found the perfect combination of loan products with competitive pricing and exceptional customer service. Most of Jan’s clients are repeat clients, and referrals from those same loyal families who return for her patient and professional assistance. It’s been a joy for her to help so many people realize their dreams of owning homes. The icing on the cake for Jan has been three decades of watching her clients’ children grow up and become homeowners themselves.

Community Involvement

Habitat for Humanity, In the Image, and Kids Food Basket all hold a special place in Jan’s heart, as they provide, housing, clothing, household goods and meals to our community’s most vulnerable members. Her involvement with these agencies serves as a reminder not to take for granted the roofs over our heads and the food on our tables. A member of Mayflower Congregational Church, she feels strongly that it matters not where or when we worship, but how we serve those around us each and every day.
